v Fillings

Fillings are used to treat a cavity or repair cracked or broken teeth.

For treating a cavity your doctor will start with removing the decayed area, for large decays local anesthetic will be used to ensure you do not feel any discomfort.

Next, your dentist will probe or test the area during the decay removal process to determine if all the decay has been removed. Once the decay has been removed, your dentist will prepare the space for the filling by cleaning the cavity of bacteria and debris. If the decay is near the root, your dentist may first put in a liner made of glass ionomer, composite resin, or other material to protect the nerve.

At Virginia Dental Care we do not recomend and will not use amalgom as filling material. Instead tooth-colored filling material (composite) is used. The material is applied in layers and hardened using a special light that "cures".  When multilayering process is completed your doctor will shape the composite material to desired result  and polish the final restoration.
