Why need Dental Implants

Why Need Dental Implants?

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are artificial titanium screws inserted into patients’ maxilla or mandible and serve to support their newly fixed teeth. Implanted teeth look natural and are the best at bringing back the feeling of firmness and comfort that our natural teeth give us. Because of how well they work, they also let us eat like normal. Each implantology case is individualized and analyzed to determine how many implants are necessary and the right time for placement and subsequent loading with their prosthesis. For example, an implant can be positioned on the same day of an extraction (where the root of the extracted tooth was), or it can be deferred depending on the presence of an infection or the existence of associated dental lesions and the amount of bone there is.

HOW ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS PLACED?

They are placed by surgical intervention under local anesthesia. The postoperative period is usually very good. Thanks to modern minimally invasive microsurgical techniques, the appearance of complications, pain, inflammation or bruising are very rare. However, in cases of advanced surgery with many dental implants, grafts, or very complex cases, postoperative complications are somewhat higher.

The osseointegration success rate of implants is approximately 98.5%. Most of the time, if a good integration is not achieved (1.5% of the time), the implant can be put in again after some time. It doesn’t mean that the bone is rejecting the implant. Instead, it means that there isn’t enough stability between the bone and the implant.

PROSTHETIC RECOVERY ON IMPLANTS

Prosthetic rehabilitation varies between 24 hours and 6 months, depending on the primary stability of the implant, the quality and type of bone, and the location of the teeth to be restored. An immediate load can be carried out where necessary to promote patient comfort. We can extract teeth in poor condition, place implants, and fix them within 24 hours. This can be done whenever the maxilla’s bone conditions and the implants’ stability allow it.
In cases of insufficient quality and/or quantity of bone, bone regeneration techniques are used through bone grafts and bioengineering techniques, which are very reliable and not very aggressive. This allows people previously condemned to wear teeth with poor retention to enjoy teeth as if they were their own, stable and comfortable.
