Dental Veneers
WHAT ARE VENEERS?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells typically made of porcelain or composite resin that are designed to cover the front surface of a tooth. They are a cosmetic dental procedure used to improve the appearance of teeth that are discolored, stained, misaligned, chipped, or worn down. Veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth, effectively changing their color, shape, size, or length to create a more aesthetically pleasing and symmetrical smile.
Here’s how the process typically works:
- Consultation: You start with a consultation with a dentist or cosmetic dentist to discuss your goals and assess whether veneers are a suitable option for you.
- Preparation: In most cases, a small amount of the tooth’s enamel is removed to make space for the veneer. This step is necessary to ensure that the veneer doesn’t make the tooth look bulky and to create a secure bonding surface.
- Impressions: After preparing the teeth, the dentist takes impressions of your teeth, which are used to custom-create the veneers.
- Veneer fabrication: The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory where skilled technicians fabricate the veneers according to the specifications provided by your dentist. This process can take a few days to a couple of weeks.
- Bonding: Once the veneers are ready, your dentist will check their fit, color, and shape. Any necessary adjustments can be made at this stage. Then, the dentist will use a special adhesive and bonding agent to attach the veneers to your teeth.
- Final adjustments: After bonding the veneers, your dentist will make any final adjustments as needed to ensure they are comfortable and properly aligned with your bite.
Veneers are a popular choice for individuals seeking to enhance their smile’s aesthetics, but they are not a solution for underlying dental problems like decay or severe misalignment. It’s important to consult with a dentist to determine if veneers are appropriate for your specific dental needs and goals. Additionally, veneers are a long-lasting but irreversible dental procedure, as a portion of your natural tooth enamel is typically removed during the preparation process.
COMPOSITE VENEERS
They differ from porcelain veneers because they require little or no tooth reduction, and treatment can be performed in a single visit.
To make composite veneers, the composite material is applied to the front surfaces of the teeth and sculpted into the desired shape by the hands of a cosmetic dentist.
VENEERS WITHOUT CARVING THE TOOTH
The main advantage and characteristic of veneers without grinding the tooth is the placement technique without tooth wear. No grinding of the sensitive tooth structure is required. However, for its placement, a series of requirements must be met.
